Benjamin Stanley

June 11, 2006 CROWN POINT — Benjamin R. Stanley of Crown Point, N.Y., passed away Thursday, June 8, 2006, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital, Ticonderoga, N.Y.

He was born Oct. 31, 1935, in Crown Point, N.Y., the son of John and Sophia (Snipp) Stanley.

Ben attended Crown Point Central School before entering the U.S. Marine Corp in 1953. Ben was part of the Marine Provisional Detachment aboard the USS Intrepid when the ship was re-commissioned June 18, 1954. Here he proudly served until his honorable discharge as a corporal in 1957. He was employed as a pipe fitter at the International Paper Company, retiring in 1993 after 28 years. He had a lifelong love of all sports, including fishing, hunting and his beloved Red Sox, who he lived to see win a World Series. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol (Noel) Stanley of Crown Point; his three sons, Christopher Stanley and his wife Penny of Traverse City, Mich., Paul Stanley and his wife Mary of Witherbee, N.Y., Ben Stanley Jr. and his wife Crystal of Fort Ann, N.Y.; and one daughter, Mary Hope McGinness and husband Patrick of Crown Point, N.Y. He is also survived by five brothers, John, Walt, Frank, Joseph and Edward. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Matt, Chris, Katie, Adam, Andrew, Sarah, Todd and Mindy Stanley and Lindsey and Jordan McGinness. They were a very special part of his life and he loved them very much, as he did his many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Ben was predeceased by his brothers, Stan, William and sister Helen.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2006, at the Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, at the Sacred Heart Church in Crown Point, N.Y. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Crown Point.
